Colten Howard Memorial Fund Established to Raise Money For Grain Bin Safety Equipment Donations to Rural Fire Departments

Anita Howard, whose son Colten died November 22, 2019 in a grain bin entrapment incident, established the Colten Howard Memorial Fund in 2020 to advocate grain bin safety. That fund has announced some specific initiatives for 2022.

According to Howard, “In 2022, the Colten Howard Memorial Fund will be donating $20,000 worth of grain bin rescue equipment to rural fire departments. I am planning to start in Indiana, but I hope this grows to a point where I can expand to more states over time.

“In addition to the $20,000 in donations,” says Howard, “I will be donating $1,500 annually for a Parke Heritage High School [Rockville, IN] scholarship. The scholarship will be awarded to a student pursuing a degree in an agriculture-related field.”

The fund, which received 501(c) non-profit organization status in early December, is accepting monetary donations that will go toward grain bin rescue equipment for rural fire departments.
